Foster Care Resources for Mississippi

Mission Statement

Covered is dedicated to providing and encouraging opportunities for education, empowerment, self-worth, communication, and relationship building for all parties involved in the foster care system in Northwest Mississippi.
  • History
Covered was started in July 2016 from a great need introduced through feedback from state licensed resource (foster) parents. Children enter the foster care system for different reasons and from different backgrounds. These children are ripped from the life they know as normal, in many cases taken to a strange place with strange people and having nothing to call their own. Our goal is to ease that stress.
  • Short-Term Goal
To provide simple resources – clothing, toiletries, bedding & other necessities – to children in the foster care system in DeSoto County and Northwest Mississippi. These items can stay with the child if they have to transition from one resource home to another.
  • Long-Term Vision
Establishment of a group home in DeSoto County. Although the goal is placement with a relative or a resource family, this doesn't always happen. Leaving the option for a child to have to enter a group home. Having to move to a different county when entering the foster system can seriously disrupt a child's life, especially in the realm of their education. Which is why this will be an important resource to Desoto County.

What We Do

  • 1 Week of Clean Clothing

In some cases its impossible to gather personal clothing items, or maybe the current items are deemed inappropriate. Each child in need will receive 1 week worth of clean clothing that are: age, size, and weather appropriate.

  • Personal Hygiene Care Kit
Encouraging children to have self worth in many cases begins with having opportunities to have positive personal hygiene. Each child in need will receive a need driven personal hygiene care  kit.

  •        Personal Bedding

To many children nothing says safety like a blanket and pillow. Covered is focused on providing a personal blanket and pillow to all children entering or moving through out the foster care system.

  •       Nutritional Needs

Our goal is to provide children and resource families with balanced meals that include fresh fruit and veggies. As well as important facts about food storage and preparation.
